<Photo> CHERRY, Korea's first blockchain-based charity platform, has exceeded 3 billion won in accumulated donations thanks to the craze for ESG practice in everyday life.
CHERRY recorded a cumulative donation of 1 billion won in 15 months after opening in December 2019, followed by 2 billion won in 5 months and 3 billion won in 4 months. t is showing a gradual rapid growth rate and attracts attention.
CHERRY cites the synergy with the recent strong ESG craze as the secret to such a steep growth. ESG, which means sustainable economic activities represented by environment, society, and governance, permeates not only corporate activities but also consumers' lives, creating a trend of steadily practicing small but valuable efforts for sustainability in everyday life. In fact, the Zero Waste movement emphasizes value consumption, such as using tumblers at cafes, using multi-use individual containers instead of disposable tableware when packing food, and using eco-friendly products such as shampoo bars and detergent bars that do not use plastic materials. Based on the MZ generation, it has emerged as a hot trend in 2021.
Thanks to this trend of ESG practice in daily life, CHERRY launched the 'CHERRY Sneakers Day' walking donation campaign, which caused a great sensation. 'CHERRY Sneakers Day' is a participatory ESG campaign where companies or organizations that want to practice CSR accumulate donations equal to the number of steps taken by using the pedometer function of the CHERRY app, and can participate in donations just by walking in everyday life. It is an action campaign. In particular, it is characterized by adding vivid fun like a mobile game by not only simply accumulating donations, but also being able to check the profiles and rankings of donors walking with me in real time.
In fact, CHERRY held various non-face-to-face donation marathons and walking events such as the Seungil Hope Foundation's 'Miracle 365 Virtual Harmony Run with Sean & Insuni', World Human Bridge's 'People Love Life Walking Festival', and Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) 'Hantol Walking Festival'. In the meantime, through the 'CHERRY Sneakers Day' campaign, the cumulative number of steps has recorded a total of 130 million steps. Members exceeded 20% and showed enthusiastic responses to the campaign to practice ESG in everyday life.
Meanwhile, the 'CHERRY Dance Challenge', where you can participate in donations by dance cover and uploading a video on social media, also received attention and succeeded in raising 100% of the target donation. Not only did it attract the participation of many dancers and amateur club members, but among celebrities, actress Shin Ae-ra, comedian Hong Hyun-hee, and broadcaster Jang Young-ran participated and attracted public attention.
Lee Sujeong, CEO of E4Net, an IT company that develops and operates CHERRY, said, “The MZ generation is considered not to be interested in donations, but they can practice ESG in a fun way in their daily lives, such as 'CHERRY Snickers Day' and 'CHERRY Dance Challenge'. Through the campaign, we were able to bring about warm sharing practices. In fact, 8 out of 10 outstanding donors who donated the most through CHERRY last year. In the future, even if it is not necessary to donate money, we will introduce a campaign to practice sharing with small actions in daily life, contributing to easy and fun ESG practice in everyday life."
Meanwhile, earlier this year, CHERRY will launch a 'microtracking' function using blockchain technology that can be displayed to donors in an easy-to-understand manner, checking the current status of donations, like a delivery location inquiry service, and tracking the entire process of donations to the beneficiary.
